Almost three years after the delivery of the first 10.3-inch tablet with E Ink display and stylus, ReMarkable has released a new device – the thinnest tablet.ReMarkable 2 retains the same basic idea – a device with a large display, long battery life and stylus support that allows you to write or draw on the screen. But the new model is thinner, faster and lasts longer.
ReMarkable 2 is available for pre-order at $399 and the first batch is expected in June. During pre-orders, this pricing includes case, stylus and delivery. Retail price of the reMarkable 2 together with its accessories will eventually approach $535 once sales start.
Company reports that the system has a 10.3-inch display with a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels. This is a 2nd generation CANVAS display that “partly runs on E Ink technology.
Like the screen on electronic ink, display only consumes power when the image is changed. In this way, it can display a static image for an indeterminate period of time. However, ReMarkable suggests that you should expect up to two weeks of battery life in normal use or up to 90 days of standby time from the built-in 3000 mAh battery.
ReMarkable stylus supports pressure and tilt sensitive input. Company promises a delay of only 21 ms, so writing electronic ink on electronic paper will be like working with ordinary paper and pen.Tablet is equipped with a dual-core ARM processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8 GB of internal memory, which, according to the company, is enough to store 100 thousand pages of content.
Tablet is 4.7 mm thick and weighs 405 grams. This makes reMarkable 2 the thinnest user tablet in the world. It supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi connections and has a USB-C port. ReMarkable 2 runs on a Linux-based Codex operating system and supports imported ePUB and PDF documents. You can export your notes and pictures in PDF, PNG or SVG format.
Stylus can be attached to the side of ReMarkable 2 using the built-in magnets. Case is also attached to the tablet with the magnets. Although the new version is thinner than the first model, it is also heavier. ReMarkable reports that this is because the case is mostly made of aluminum. Single charge time has been increased and performance has increased by 140 percent thanks to a new processor and more energy efficient RAM.
