For the exhibition CES 2020 Segway brand has prepared a new type of personal vehicle – a self-balancing mobile chair. It is called the Segway S-Pod and is designed for short, comfortable rides.

Segway S-Pod looks most like a massive 150 kg seat to which a couple of big wheels and a few small pull-out wheels have been attached for balancing during difficult maneuvers. To change the direction of travel, is used already familiar principle of shifting the center of gravity, but the user does not need to lean, controls are carried out via a special joystick. It is reported that the chair can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h and travel up to 70 km on one charge.

The obvious disadvantage of the Segway S-Pod is that it has no roof and can only travel on smooth surfaces. At the same time, the device is much more massive than an electric scooter or a bike with a power system, but concedes in running qualities even to the most simple scooter. However, manufacturer himself positions the new car as a means of moving the “last mile” – from the stop of public transport to the office doors or between campuses of the university.
